The online MSc in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Bath is designed to give professionals from computer science – and a host of other disciplines – the opportunity to specialise in AI and meet the increasing demand for experts in this exciting, challenging and rapidly growing field. Our masters in artificial intelligence online course offers two specialist pathways:

  • Technical: for students wishing to specialise in the more technical side of AI.
  • General: for students from less technical backgrounds who want to understand AI in context.

The University of Bath heads up the Institute of Coding, an initiative made up of universities and corporations committed to plugging the digital skills gap. The initiative gives employers the opportunity to contribute to the online masters in computer science, ensuring you’re able to develop the skills that employers need the most.

We draw on input from its ‘UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Accountable, Responsible and Transparent AI (ART-AI)’. This means our online MSc Artificial Intelligence degree provides you with the most up-to-date understanding of the emerging possibilities of artificial intelligence, as well as its ethical implications.

Cost per 10 credits £722* (10% alumni discount). Fees are paid per unit. The MSc totals 180 credits.

Entry requirements

  • Typically, you should have a first or strong second class bachelor’s honours degree or international equivalent.
  • To apply for this course, you may have an undergraduate degree in any subject, but you must demonstrate evidence of relevant quantitative skills (especially algebra and calculus) either through your degree study or by alternative means.

International students

Applicants must have an IELTS score of 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in any band.

Covering a range of topics such as the foundations of AI, data science, machine learning and robotics, the course will equip you with a fresh, comprehensive understanding of AI and its application in the real world.

As well as exploring the business functions of AI, we provide a full introduction to programming, helping even those with minimal coding experience respond to the rigours of today’s digital-driven businesses.

Introducing you to the core concepts of programming and the practical skills involved in producing programs to solve real-world problems, this unit will help build your confidence around a variety of programming languages and paradigms.

Exploring current issues around human interaction with computational intelligence, you’ll understand how to design, implement, evaluate and manage systems involving humans and intelligent machines.

This module looks at the theoretical and political debates around the development, emergence and adoption of technologies in social and political practice, explaining the position of AI in these debates and the ways in which it can challenge political, social and economic relationships.
